• Expensive battery bank
• Wasted solar energy when batteries full
Recommended For Areas with rare load shedding (e.g. Islamabad sectors with high reliability) wanting zero bill. 90% of Pakistani households who want both zero electric bills and uninterrupted backup during blackouts. Remote farmhouses, tube-wells, rural sites, or locations with no electrical grid infrastructure.

Understanding What Each System Does

1. On-Grid (Grid-Tied) System

Lowest Capital Cost

An On-Grid system consists of solar panels and a grid-tied inverter connected directly to your distribution box and the WAPDA grid via a bidirectional Green Meter. During sunny daytime hours, your home consumes solar energy first. Any extra units produced are pushed backward into the IESCO grid, causing your meter to spin in reverse. At night, you consume units from WAPDA, which are offset against the exported units on your bill.

Important Safety Note (Anti-Islanding): If WAPDA load shedding occurs, an on-grid inverter shuts down immediately for lineworker safety. If your area experiences frequent power cuts during the day, you will not have power during the outage unless you upgrade to a Hybrid system.

2. Hybrid Solar System ⭐ (Pakistan's Standard)

Best Seller in Pakistan

A Hybrid system combines the financial benefits of Net Metering with the security of a whole-home UPS. It connects to solar panels, the WAPDA grid, AND a modern battery storage bank (such as Lithium LiFePO4).

How It Works Daily: During the day, solar powers your home and charges your batteries to 100%. Once batteries are full, all remaining excess power is exported to IESCO for bill credits. When a blackout or load-shedding hits, the inverter seamlessly shifts your critical loads (or entire house) to battery in less than 10 milliseconds — your computers won't even reboot.

Why it's #1 in Pakistan: With escalating electricity tariffs and unpredictable load-shedding schedules, Hybrid provides complete comfort, zero bill anxiety, and zero blackout interruptions.

3. Off-Grid Standalone System

Remote Independence

An Off-Grid system operates completely isolated without any WAPDA connection. It relies on a very large battery bank to store enough daytime sunlight to power the house through the night and consecutive cloudy or rainy days.

Because all evening and nighttime power must be pulled from chemical storage, battery bank costs are substantial. We recommend off-grid systems primarily for remote farmhouses, telecommunication towers, poultry farms, and areas where extending a high-tension (HT) WAPDA line is financially unfeasible.

Common Questions About Solar in Pakistan

Click on any question to view clear, authoritative answers from our senior engineering team.

Can I run a 1.5-Ton Inverter AC on a 5kW or 7kW solar system? +
Yes! A 1.5-ton inverter air conditioner typically consumes between 1.2 kW to 1.8 kW at startup and stabilizes around 800W - 1,200W once the room temperature is reached. A 5kW system can easily power 1x 1.5-ton AC plus all household lights, fans, refrigerator, and LED TVs during the day. A 7kW or 10kW system can comfortably power 2 to 3 AC units simultaneously with power to spare for grid export.
What is the eligibility and timeframe for IESCO Net Metering in Pakistan? +
To qualify for Net Metering under NEPRA regulations, you must have a 3-Phase digital electricity meter and a sanctioned electrical load matching or exceeding your proposed solar inverter capacity. SolarWave handles the complete process:
  1. Preparation of single-line diagrams (SLD) and application filing at the IESCO sub-division.
  2. Load extension request (if current sanctioned load is lower than inverter kW).
  3. Inspection and NOC issuance by the IESCO SDO / XEN.
  4. Installation and commissioning of the bidirectional Green Meter by IESCO metering staff (typically 30 - 45 days total).
Lithium (LiFePO4) vs Tubular Batteries: Which should I choose? +
While deep-cycle tall tubular batteries have a lower initial purchase price (approx Rs. 98,000 for a 24V pair), Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries are significantly cheaper over their lifetime:
  • Lifespan: Tubular batteries last 2 to 3 years in Pakistani heat; Lithium lasts 10 to 12 years (6,000+ cycles).
  • Usable Energy: Tubular batteries can only safely discharge 50% (DoD) before degradation; Lithium can discharge 90-100%.
  • Charging Speed: Lithium charges from solar in 2 hours; tubular batteries require 8 to 10 hours.
  • Maintenance: Lithium requires zero acid refilling or fumes; tubular requires regular distilled water top-ups.
How much rooftop space is required for a solar installation? +
Modern 585W Tier-1 bifacial panels measure approximately 2.3 meters by 1.1 meters (approx 27 sq. ft per panel). As a general rule:
  • 5 kW System (9 Panels): Requires ~300 - 350 sq. ft of shadow-free roof area.
  • 7 kW System (12 Panels): Requires ~400 - 450 sq. ft.
  • 10 kW System (18 Panels): Requires ~600 - 700 sq. ft.
We specialize in custom elevated galvanized iron (GI) structures so your rooftop remains 100% usable for walking, clothes drying, and leisure.
Can I charge an E-Bike directly from my solar installation? +
Absolutely! In fact, charging an electric bike from solar means your daily transport is 100% free of fuel costs. A typical 48V 15Ah E-bike battery holds approximately 0.72 kWh of electricity. Charging it from 0% to 100% consumes less than 1 solar unit (costing ~Rs. 0 from your panels). That gives you 70 to 80 km of city commute without buying a single drop of petrol.
